YOUR WORDS HAVE POWER
Since I am passionate about the written word, I discovered earlier in life how powerful words really are. With the magic of words you can create and atmosphere too priceless to deny. Authors of great novels are able to "pull you in" by the well placement of words. Politicians master words as they run for office and each person running for office (I believe) sincerely believes that his/her words will produce the change they desire to produce. People who write plays seek to grab the attention of the audience by making the words become visible through the actions of the well chosen actors and actresses on stage. The best prolific preachers can invoke a call to discipleship through the written Word from the Bible. I remember how ministers would preach "fire and brimstone" and the reality of going to hell - to the point I would be afraid to NOT live right! :-) As parents, we seek to talk to our children about the dangers of making the wrong decisions - making ONE wrong decision can change your life forever. Better yet, as parents we seek to guide our children to avoid making the mistakes we made. In this technology rich society we live in, even the best of words are in competition with the worst of written dialogue. This generation is transfixed on having a "screen" in front of them 24/7!! While the world wide web is a generous tool for discover and information as it happens - it has also strategically taken AWAY the humanistic value of talking face to face. Thing is, we still use words, but there is a lack of emotion in a text. Many friends have 'parted ways" due to a simple misunderstanding in a text when truthfully, conversation on the phone, dialogue over a cup of coffee or sitting on a park bench for a heart-to-heart chat would have mended many misunderstandings. When asked what I want as a gift, I usually ask for a greeting card. A sentiment from the heart chosen especially for me is PRICELESS! Cursive writing is like a secret language to the technology generation. :-) I frequently put greeting cards under my daughter's pillow reminding her "I saw you being GOOD". The element of reminding our children what they did WRONG is constant - why not remind them when they are making you proud? I want to be my daughter's "inner voice" - I try to guide her strategically with "winning words" - words of inspiration and to enlist a sense of challenge to her future years of thinking for her self. She tells me I am her HERO - and I honor that she "looks up to me".
Speaking of words. Prayer is a communication with God. Sometimes our need to communicate with The Most High gets complicated by believing that there is some sort of "formula". While we are ignited to remember to "enter into his gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with Praise".... have you ever been so hurt that your prayer becomes a moan? Have you ever approached the Throne of God with just tears? Maybe you go to church and just lift your hands in the sanctuary because words escape you? (like the song - "if I can't say a word... I just wave my hands"). As much as I "LOVE" well placed verbiage in print, sometimes I think it is wise to not say a word at all. "Life and death are in the power of your tongue). If your words are destructive and hold no promise of an expected end - KNOWING that God has control - then maybe you should not say anything at all. For me, it is vital to find one scripture and ignite the atmosphere with it. Make no mistake about it - the attacks of the enemy are great - but let's not give the enemy ammunition through the words we say.
How about music. Do you just listen to the music or do you drown in the atmosphere of the words? Sometimes I try to decipher the different instruments used to create the melodic tempo - other times I am embraced by the lyrics. Some words sound like pornography set to music so I have to choose wisely what I listen to. The lyrics to some music can evoke an emotion. Have you ever felt sad after listening to the BLUES? :-) The masterful words in music is amazing. Interestingly enough - there is some gospel music that borders on secular music to the point - if you are not paying attention - you could confuse one with the other. It is all about the words.
I have had to whisper prayers more days than I'd like to reveal. The parched lips of my human body felt unable to articulate the deepest level of pan. You ever just felt too numb to pray? But that's okay, too. God is close to those whose hearts are broken. The Most High will never leave you ignorant of the devices of the evil one - and promises a way of escape. If all you have is a whisper - I just believe God understands.
Go ahead, whisper to God.
He hears you.
